A new police initiative could see residents rewarded with cash for grassing up drug dealers.

The Metropolitan Police is urging Wandsworth residents to come forward with information about drug dealers operating in their neighbourhoods.

People who pass on information to police that leads to the arrest and conviction of a drug dealer could even be eligible for a community cash reward.

Over the coming weeks officers from Safer Neighbourhoods Teams (SNTs) across the borough will be targeting street-level drug dealers in a concerted crackdown on street crime.

It is part of an initiative codenamed Operation Hawk with the Met asking the public for information that will help rid communities of drug dealers and the crimes that follow them.

A police spokesman said: "As part of our total war on crime, your local safer neighbourhoods team is targeting street level drug dealing in this area under Operation Hawk.

"With your help we can make your area safer. If you have information about who is selling drugs, get in touch and we'll help make it stop."

Anyone with information can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
