A pregnant teenager who caused rush-hour mayhem when she ran along railway tracks in an attempt to dodge her fare has narrowly avoided jail.

Elesha Proud-Miles, 18, from Wandsworth, was almost killed by a Victoria Line train as she ran across the tracks at Finsbury Park Station on August 6.

The teenager who was three months pregnant at the time, was trying to escape police when she leapt from the platform and into a tunnel, according to British Transport Police (BTP).

She was stopped by police and charged with trespassing on the railway, assaulting a designated person and causing an obstruction following the incident.

Proud-Miles, who had been told she could face jail when she admitted the charges at Westminster Magistrates' Court in October, was sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court on November 8 to eight months imprisonment suspended for two years.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokeswoman said: "She is also subject to a three-month curfew and is banned from travelling on trains in London and on the London Underground for three months."
