Revised plans to regenerate Wandsworth town centre's historic Ram Brewery have been unveiled.

New proposals include replacing the disused brewery complex with 669 new homes, a 35-storey residential tower and more than 100,000 sq ft of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.

The new planning application, submitted to Wandsworth Council on November 9 by developer Minerva.

The original application, granted planning permission in December 2008, included 1,000 apartments and 200,000 square feet of retail space in two towers.

But in February 2009 the application was referred to and rejected by a government appointed planning inspector.

The revised application includes just one tower and a homage to the site's history with a micro-brewery and brewing museum.

Minerva has also pledged to carry out work improving the water quality of The River Wandle, which runs through the heart of the development.

Tim Garnham, Minerva joint chief executive, said: "These proposals will breathe new life into the historic Ram Brewery site and Wandsworth town centre.

"The scheme will provide a new shopping experience for local people as well as new jobs and new homes."

The developers hope the regeneration will create more than 500 jobs and hundreds more to construct the site.

A recent survey found more than three-quarters of residents supported the proposals but there have already been objections from some.

Andrew Whiteford, from Trefoil Road, Wandsworth, said: "The development should include at lease one parking space per residential unit and additional parking spaces for visitors to the shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.

"1200 cycle parking spaces will not help the local residents at all nor alleviate the already existing parking problem.

"A 35 storey residential tower is simply too high - one more blot on the Wandsworth skyline."

A public exhibition open from 4.30pm to 7.30pm at the site will be held on November 29.
