A man is fighting for his life after being involved in a serious assault in the early hours of this morning.
Police and paramedics were called at about 12.30am to a fight near the Duke's Head pub in Lower Richmond Road.
There they found a 46-year-old man, who was taken to hospital suffering serious head injuries.
His condition is described as critical.
Detectives from the Metropolitan police's Homicide and Serious Crime Command have launched an investigation and have appealed for witnesses to come forward with information.
An incident room has opened at Lewisham under Detective Chief Inspector Graeme Gwyn.
