St George’s Healthcare Trust (SGHT) has been recognised for having below average mortality rates for patients.

The Dr Foster Hospital Guide 2012, which publishes healthcare information, found the trust to have lower than expected mortality rates.

It measures the rates using the summary hospital level mortality indicator, measuring the ratio of observed deaths to expected deaths.

The hospital’s heart attack centre has also been praised for having London’s best survival rates.

Nigel Kennea, associate medical director, said: “The fact even for the most complex emergency services our mortality rates are lower than expected is a testament to the professionalism and dedication of our skilled clinical teams.”

Miles Scott, trust chief executive, said: “People in south west London can take a huge amount of confidence and pride in the fact mortality rates are significantly lower than average.”
