The man arrested on suspicion of Steve Andrews' murder has been released on police bail until February next year.

Postman Mr Andrews was assaulted during a fight outside the Duke's Head, in Lower Richmond Road, in Putney, in the early hours of Sunday morning (December 9).

The 46-year-old was taken to St George's Hospital but succumbed to his injuries and died at 6pm on Sunday - a post mortem revealed the cause of death as a severe head injury.

Just two days after a murder investigation was launched a 28-year-old man handed himself in to a police station in Exeter, in Devon, almost 200 miles away from the murder scene.

But after being interviewed the man was bailed by murder squad investigators to return to a north London police station in February 2013 "pending further enquiries".

New Zealander Mr Andrews was the lead singer of Wellington punk band Vas Deferens.

He moved to the UK in 1997 and had been living and working in Harlesden.

Officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are still investigating and an incident room has opened at Hendon police station under Detective Chief Inspector Matt Bonner.

DCI Bonner said: "We are still appealing for anyone who was in or around the area of the Duke's Head pub in Lower Richmond Road after midnight who may have seen or heard anything to call our incident room or Crimestoppers."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that may assist police should call the incident room on 020 8358 0200 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
