Three people had to be dramatically rescued by firefighters following a blaze at a flat in Roehampton yesterday morning.

Thirty firefighters and six fire engines battled with the flames for more than an hour after being called to Allenford House, in Tunworth Crescent, Roehampton, just before 11am on Sunday (December 23).

After fire crews, wearing breathing apparatus, rescued a woman from the affected flat, she was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.

The blaze badly damaged most of the property, which was on the fifth floor of Allenford House, which is located in the Alton Estate.

Firefighters also rescued a man and a woman from a neighbouring flat.

Police are treating the flat as a crime scene and are investigating the incident, although they have yet to officially comment, or make any arrests.

It is understood to be the second fire in the same property in as many months.

A spokesman from the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said: "We were The Brigade was called at 10.42am and the fire was under control by 11.56am.

"Crews from Wandsworth, Wimbledon, Fulham, Hammersmith and Heston fire stations attended the incident.

The cause of the fire, which is believed to have started in the kitchen, is under investigation.
