Fire crews are battling a blaze which broke out on the roof of a hospital.

Six fire engines were called to the fire just after 9am this morning in St George's Hospital, Blackshaw Road, Tooting.

The fire started in a plant room on the roof of a hospital, while Lanesborough ward is believed to be closed off.

Witnesses have been posting on microblogging website Twitter.

John Marcar wrote: "Fire at St George's Hospital, Tooting. Smoke visible with a horrible plastic burning smell."

Cranmere Terrace is blocked due to the fire and buses 493 and G1 are being diverted.
