Schoolchildren have won a competition after showing off their literary skills.

Year six pupils at John Burns Primary School, in Wycliffe Road, Battersea, were named the winners of The Battersea Reading cup competition.

Youngsters taking part were given three books to read, The Secret Hen House Theatre, An Elephant in the Garden and One Dog and His Boy.

They were then quizzed on each of the books during a competition which took place in Thomas' School, Battersea High Street, on Tuesday (January 15).

There were four rounds of questions on each books, with 20 questions at the end linked to general knowledge about literature.

Children from John Burns Primary School, Westbridge, Falconbrook and Christ Church all battled it out, with John Burns students being named as winners.
