A year to the day since personal trainer James Cash hit the 1000 mile mark of a gruelling 3000 mile row for charity across the Atlantic; he faced an even bigger challenge – delivering his baby son while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

James and his wife Anna, from HOpton Road, Streatham, were as excited as any couple when she went into labour on January 17, but in just over an hour, just before midnight, Freddy James had been delivered by his rather shocked father.

Mr Cash, who works at his own gym by Wandsworth Common, said: "It was all very relaxed at the start but this changed very quickly because suddenly the baby was coming"

He delivered his son on the bathroom floor, cutting the umbilical cord himself before handing over to paramedics who took him to hospital.

He said: "January is obviously a very exciting month for me."

Freddy James Cash weighed in at 6.6 lbs. Both mother and son returned home healthy from St.George’s Hospital, Tooting on Saturday January 19 .

Mr Cash and actor Bernie Portal completed their Atlantic row in February last year and raised £550,000 for charity Facing The World.
