A man has released on bail after being arrested in connection with the armed robbery of a cash-in-transit van last week.

A cash delivery driver was attacked and suffered facial injuries outside the Co-op store in Tattenham Crescent, Epsom, on Wednesday morning.

Early the next morning a man in his 40s was arrested, at an address in the Nine Elms area of Battersea, on suspicion of conspiracy to rob and possession of a firearm.

He has now been released on police bail until March 15.

Following the robbery, police carried out forensic checks in the area and a car believed to have been used in the raid was found in a nearby street shortly afterwards.

Detective Inspector Oana King said: "This was a frightening ordeal for the victim and those who witnessed it so I would appeal to anyone who has any information which may assist with the investigation to contact us as soon as possible as we need to catch the person responsible."

Anyone with information should call the police on 101 quoting reference RB/13/784 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
