Police are appealing for information after a woman was racially abused on a train.

British Transport Police (BTP) said a group of five or six men with two large dogs used derogatory and foul language towards the woman on a 5.51pm Clapham Junction to Shepperton train.

The men, who police said were between 40 and 50 years old, left the train at Fulwell station after the incident on Thursday, January 31.

Detective Sergeant Tony Burman, the investigating officer, said: “The victim has been left very upset by what took place and I am now appealing for anyone with information to come forward with information that may help with our investigation.

“BTP do not tolerate this kind of behaviour on the rail network and take reports of racial abuse extremely seriously.

“I’d urge anyone who has any information about the incidents, to contact us as soon as possible.”

Investigators are appealing for witnesses of the incident to come forward.

Officers are making local enquiries including looking at CCTV footage from the station and the surrounding area.

Anyone with information should contact BTP on 0800 405040 quoting log 526 of 31/01/2013. Information can also given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
