Man spits in faces of women in Tooting and Balham
A teenager accused of spitting at two women including a mother with a pram has been arrested.
The 19-year-old was arrested after the two women, assaulted on separate occasions, complained to police.
The first incident took place on Trinity Road, Tooting, on January 8 when a man approached her and spat in her face.
The second incident took place on Balham High Road on January 17 when the victim described how a man ran up to her and also spat in her face as she spoke to a friend.
Both assaults were completely unprovoked according to officers from Nightingale and Bedford Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT).
Police immediately linked the two incidents and identified a suspect using CCTV footage.
Sergeant Eric Ostrowski from Nightingale and Bedford SNT said: "The assaults on these two women were completely unprovoked.
"They were in company with their children at the time and have understandably both been left quite shaken.
"A man has been arrested and is currently helping police with their enquiries."
The teenager was arrested on January 29 and is currently on police bail.
