Wandsworth Police will be holding a football tournament aimed at reducing gang activity and youth violence in the borough next week.

More than 100 youngsters are expected to attend the event which is to be held at the Wandle Recreation Centre.

A police spokesman said: "The main intention of the events is to raise awareness within the communities around various activities led by police, the local community and local authority.

The tournament will be held on Tuesday, February 19, at 2pm at the Wandle Recreation Centre, Mapleton Road, Wandsworth.

The police are often telling us that we don't have a gang problem in Wandsworth. I don't see how ninety minutes football can cure anything and from what we read about football in the papers it might make things worse.
