Firefighters spent two hours releasing a driver trapped in a car following a road accident.

They were called to Clapham Common West Side, Clapham, at about 2pm yesterday afternoon after two cars crashed into each other.

Fire crews had to cut away the roof of one car to release a woman in her late 60s trapped inside.

She was taken to St George's Hospital by the London Ambulance Service.

Both cars were severely damaged and written off.

Traffic was affected in the area for several hours.
