Electrical substation leaves homes without power
An electrical substation caught alight causing homes to be without power this morning.
Firefighters were called to the substation in Mitcham Lane, Tooting, just before 6am this morning.
An explosion caused the door to blow off and apparatus to set on fire.
It took about 30 minutes to put out, while UKPower Networks, the electricity supplier, was called to shut the power off.
Nobody was injured.
A total of 30 properties in the area have been affected and are currently without an electricity supply.
UK Power Networks have said it was caused by a fault on the low-voltage underground electritcity distribution network.
A spokesman said: "UK Power Networks engineers worked as quickly and as safely as possible through the early hours to restore supplies. Their work is continuing."
