A Wimbledon marathon runner smashed his fundraising target to raise money for a baby charity.

Max Proctor, 23, ran the Virgin London Marathon’s 26.2 miles in an impressive 3h54m.

He ran for Tommy’s, the baby charity, and was aiming to raise £3,500, but has left that figure standing with the total so far at £3,860.

Max said: “It was great, a really good crowd. “I expect the figure to get to over £4,000 by the end of next week.” He is listed on the charity’s JustGiving page as one of their top fundraisers.

This was Max’s first marathon and said that he chose the charity as his father helped to set it up 21 years ago.

Tommy’s funds medical research into the causes of premature birth, stillbirth and miscarriage as well as providing an information service about health in pregnancy.

The charity’s target is to halve the number of babies that die during pregnancy or birth by 2030.
