The co-ordinator of Merton Street Pastors is leading a sponsored walk to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the street pastor movement.

John Goddard, 34, of Morden, is leading the ‘Length and Breadth of Merton’ walk to raise money for the group.

The route of around 100 miles covers all wards of Merton and is running from April 27 until May 11.

Mr Goddard said: "The Merton Street Pastors are people who attend local churches and give up their time on Friday nights to go out meeting people, caring for them, listening to them and helping them.

"They are such a positive presence in our borough and I'm really proud of what our Street Pastors do."

The walk covers such a wide area to allow the group to reach and meet people from all over Merton.

The founder of Street Pastors, Ascension Trust Director Rev Les Isaac OBE, will be attending the start of the walk at 9.30am at Morden Baptist Church in the town centre.
