With reference the conflict Bill Turner has had regarding the felling of a tree near his parents’ graves in the Putney Vale Cemetery.
I appreciate the need for good order in public places, but surely the decision to fell this tree could have been handled more sensitively?
People plant trees, etc, for a purpose.
It would have been much better if notice had been given of your intention – direct to a relative, or if a relative is not known, then a notice should be posted on the tree, for say, a month.
I appreciate you would not want very tall trees to dominate the cemetery grounds, but 5ft or 6ft, as reported in the newspaper, is not that tall for a tree.
I have elected to have a woodland burial, where trees are encouraged – no tombstones being allowed.
I sincerely hope that all the staff involved in this complaint will have learned to be more sensitive about such issues. You are not simply keeping a park in good order.
