I read with interest our assembly member's letter regarding 20mph limits, but am puzzled by his views (July 18).

Why does he think a London-wide 20mph speed limit would simply be unworkable?

In the past 30mph was the default speed limit with differences for other major roads, how would a 20mph speed limit be different?

Regards to policing and enforcement, stretched local police budgets have resulted in very little enforcement taking place of the current speed limits.

The local trials (without enforcement or speed humps) in West Putney have been shown to work.

The council is currently formulating their strategy on 20mph. It seems to me a simple question which we need to put out to local residents across the borough in light of the positive results of our local trials.

Would you like safer streets, for our children, nieces and nephews that having a default 20mph would bring?
