Cycling fast is fun. Beating public transport on the morning commute gives real pleasure.

When within the rules of the road this is great and having more and more cyclists is good for health, the environment and London.

The Thames Path is not a cycle super super-highway, it is a pedestrian priority path which cyclist are able to use. In places it can be as little as just a few metres wide.

People walk there, children play there, there are dogs, buggies, rollerblades and others sitting or standing just taking in the views of what is a fantastic linear park.

The Thames path is not a place to be ringing a bike bell AS if you are going so fast that you cannot get around the pedestrians then it is up to you to slow down, not them to get out of the way.

Pedestrians have priority. If you cause an accident, and you injure someone it will be your fault as you are in complete control of what speed you are choosing to cycle at and are fully cognisant of the constraints of the path and the risk of slow moving children and dogs etc.

If you injure someone you could have to pay out thousands in compensation and if it's bad you could even go to prison.

So please, before someone gets hurt, on the Thames Path, slow down.
