This month London’s Urban Food Fortnight will host a range of events with restaurants, pubs and street food traders to highlight locally grown, sourced and cooked produce.

Both existing food growers and new food producers are taking part in the event to raise money for food growing projects in London.

Melissa Hayles, from the Ethical Eats restaurant network, said: “This fortnight of events celebrates all the amazing food growers and producers our city has to offer.”

Events will include ultra-local menus from some of London’s top restaurants, botanical cocktail nights and foraging walks.

Sutton Community Farm has joined with acclaimed chef Malcolm John at his restaurant, Brasserie Vacherine, Sutton, to hold a pop-up ‘less than 50’ dinner where food is sourced from Sutton Community Farm or farms that are less than 50 miles from Greater London.

The evening will involve a team from the farm being present to answer questions, a champagne reception and a three course meal with options including a range of fish, meat and vegetarian options.

In Battersea, Crayfish Bob is hosting a series of pop-up diners celebrating international crayfish cuisine, using animals caught in London’s waterways.

The international crayfish dishes, from within the M25, include Wimbledon Tomato Sorbet, North London Crayfish in dill and beer and Richmond elderflower sorbet.

Abundance Wimbledon is holding its big community event, Abundance Fruit, which will sell products that would otherwise go to waste and to help people who are starting out in the food business.

Produce sold at the event will include jams, cakes and chutneys with a free jam tasting and entertainment provided from the International Ukulele Orchestra.

The final South West London event is held in Upper Norwood where Westow Park Harvest Festival is being held to celebrate the fruits of an urban autumn in a harvest festival.

Upon entering the park through the Secret Entrance, Crystal Palace Transition Town have transformed an overgrown corner into an award winning edible garden.

Other highlights from around London include the Forty Hall Farm Moveable Feast in Enfield, a tour of Sipsmith Distillery in Hammersmith and an urban food cookery class on Carnaby Street.

The initiative is collaborated between Ethical Eats and Capital Growth and is supported by Grub Club and Slow Food London as the official partners.
