New online service available for Wandsworth teenagers looking for further education options
Wandsworth Council has signed up to a new online service for teenagers looking for further education courses.
UCAS Progress lists all the options available for youngsters in Wandsworth after they have finished their GCSEs.
A change in the law this year means young people must stay in education or training until they are 17, which is increasing to 18 in 2015.
The UCAS Progress is helping councils, schools and students meet the challenge, by making it simple to search for post-GCSE courses in one place.
A total of 35 education providers in Wandsworth are listed on the site, with 450 courses and learning opportunities on offer.
Councillor Kathy Tracey, Wandsworth Council's cabinet member for children's services, said: "We’re very positive about introducing UCAS Progress within the borough because of the support it offers young people making career choices.
"We want to ensure all our young people achieve their full potential, and we know their next step post-16 is crucial.
"We are working hard to increase the opportunities open to them, and have set ourselves a target of ensuring they all find a place in education, employment or training."
