Contractors who worked on the development of the Olympic park will begin reconstructing Battersea Power Station's chimneys next year.
Mace has been appointed by the Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC) to take control of the trade contractors working on the £100m development.
The preliminary works will involve brick repairs to the elevations, repairs to the four wash towers and reconstruction of the chimneys.
All four of the power station's chimneys will be rebuilt in concrete, which will temporarily leave London's skyline with a single stack.
A sequence has been adopted which will see one chimney removed and rebuilt, before work starts on the remaining three chimneys.
Mace, an international consultancy and construction company, is also developing the Olympic and Paralympic Village into housing.
The London based firm has worked on other heritage projects, including the New Bodleian Library in Oxford which was also designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott.
Rob Ticknell, chief executive officer, said: "The appointment of Mace, which has an excellent track record in historic and specialised buildings, will ensure that Gilbert Scott’s masterpiece is in safe hands and that all the contractors working on its restoration are pulling together so that we can finally refurbish it and open it up to the public."
The dismantling of the first chimney is expected to begin in February 2014.
