Putney beggar jailed after twice breaching Asbo
A professional beggar who fleeced Putney residents while living in a £400,000 plush Fulham townhouse has been jailed for two months.
Simon Wright, 37, was handed an Asbo after years of begging outside NatWest bank in Putney High Street, earning a reputed £50,00 per year in the process.
The order, issued at Wimbledon Magistrates Court in May, prevented him from entering the SW15 area or from begging anywhere in the capital until the summer of 2015.
But within a few weeks Wright had breached the order after being caught begging in the West End in August and September.
Despite being threatened with jail, he was again spotted scrounging from the public near Marble Arch late last month.
Wright, who pleaded guilty to two charges of breaching his ASBO, appeared at Hammersmith Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
