90’s pin-up Luke Perry swapped Beverley Hills for Nappy Valley when he appeared at a number of locations across the borough to film his latest film.

Perry, who starred as Dylan McKay in the original series of Beverly Hills 90210, is working with Wimbledon film company Scoop Films shooting independent film The Beat Beneath my Feet.

Northcote Road business owners received a shock when the American star appeared on their doorsteps at the start of the month, and the film has gone on to shoot at The Bedford, Balham, as well as in neighbouring Merton.

One scene was shot inside music shop Guitar Classics, to the delight of owner Graham Hill.

He said: “It was an interesting experience. The crew members and stars were very friendly, while the location managers loved the store for its quirky look.”

In the new British comedy drama, Perry has transformed himself into a rugged and near-unrecognisable figure as he plays a disgraced rock star named Max Stone.

After his character fakes his own death and flees from America to London, his solitary and secret life is threatened when his true identity is discovered by insecure and introverted teenager Tom – played by up and coming South London based actor Nick Galitzine.

Wandsworth resident and producer, Michael Mueller said that newcomer Galitzine was “great on camera and had a great voice.”

He also described lead actor Perry as being “approachable” and that “within a few days he was saying that we have to make this work.”

The Beat Beneath My Feet will be released in Spring 2014.
