An event aimed at helping people learn more about volunteering opportunities is be held at the Wandsworth town hall tomorrow.

The Wandsworth Volunteering Fair will give visitors the opportunity to meet more than 30 charities and organisations, get expert information and advice from the Volunteering Wandsworth team and sign up to volunteer.

Last year saw more than 3,460 new volunteers sign up to a variety of roles, a massive increase on the year before when 1,894 people registered.

Wandsworth Council wants to encourage people who live, work and study in Wandsworth to volunteer because as well as giving something back to the local community, it gives them a chance to learn valuable skills they need to enter, or re-enter, the world of work.

Volunteering Wandsworth, part of community charity Groundwork London, works on behalf of the council to help people into volunteering.

The Wandsworth Volunteering Fair takes place from 4pm to 7pm at the Civic Suite, in Wandsworth High Street, tomorrow (Thursday, October 17).
