Mental health nurses to get multi-million pound funding boost
The borough's mental health trust will appoint a substantial number of new nursing staff as part of a £2.1 million investment in patient care.
South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLSTG), which governs Tooting's Springfield Hospital, conducted a comprehensive review of all its inpatient nursing services over the last year and concluded the mammoth investment in qualified, permanent staff was required.
David Bradley, chief executive of SWLSTG, said: "Following a comprehensive review of all our inpatient nursing services we decided to invest an additional £2.1 million into the nursing workforce across all inpatient services this year and on an ongoing basis.
"This investment will increase both the numbers of permanent staff on duty and the number of qualified nurses on these wards and gives us one of the best ratios of staff to patients and qualified to unqualified staff across London Mental Health Trusts."
Recruitment for the new posts has already started.
