Plans to build a new primary school will go ahead after a community group lost their High Court bid to block the scheme.

Earlier today the court rejected the judicial review made by the Friends of Putney Common (FofPC) against Wandsworth Council regarding the legality of their plans to develop on the former Putney Hospital site.

A planning application was given the go-ahead by the council's planning committee during a separate meeting last night.

FofPC took legal action after discovering an easement agreement, or payment, signed in February 2012, between Wandsworth Council and the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators (WPCC).

The payment was issued for the use of an access road in order to build the 420-pupil school in Putney Common.

More than 800 people objected to the original planning application connected to the easement agreements.

The site will now be developed for the new school and flats, while the rest of the land will be grassed over.

Putney Hospital was closed in 1999 and has remained vacant event since.
