A park in Wandsworth is set to benefit from an avenue of new cherry trees as part of a project to improve the environment.
King George’s Park will see 30 new trees planted to revitalise Cherry Tree Avenue, one of the park’s oldest features.
New trees will take the place of dead or dying trees which need to be removed.
Jerry Birtles, the council’s chief parks officer, is keen to renew the avenue so future generations can also enjoy the park.
Thames Water is funding the project which will provide homes for birds, bees and other wildlife.
The King’s George’s park project is taking place as part of a wider tree planting programme over the winter season.
Wandsworth will gain 1,000 more trees along roads and town centres, as well as in green spaces.
