The first ever council of governors at St George's Healthcare NHS Trust have been selected.

There are a total of 15 elected members of the public in the group, alongside five elected members of staff.

The public members for Wandsworth include Stuart Goodden, Yvonne Langley, Derek McKee, Doulla Manolas, Stephen Miles and Carol Varlaam.

They will be joined by eight members from stakeholder organisations Wandsworth and Merton Councils, Wandsworth Clinical Commissioning Group, Healthwatch as well as St George's and Kingston Universities.

The governors are responsible for monitoring the performance of the trust's board of directors and help represent views of the membership.

More than 3,457 cast their vote in nominating the group.

Christopher Smallwood, chairman, said: "We want to involve our community more closely in the decisions we make and becoming a Foundation Trust will strengthen our ability to do this by creating a council of governors who will work with us to ensure we provide patients with the best possible care."
