Police have launched in investigation after an elderly couple were found dead in an apparent murder suicide.

Douglas Harry Morton, 61, and Carol French, 73, were found by police called to Stormont Road, Battersea, yesterday morning.

The lifeless body of a Ms French was found in the first floor bedroom, while the body of Mr Morton was found in the first-floor bathroom.

Ms French's death is being treated as suspicious, while the death of Mr Morton is being treated as non-suspicious.

A neighbour said: "It's absolutely awful, tragic when something like that happens so close to home.

"They were a lovely couple, there was nothing to suspect anything was wrong."

Nausheen Ahmed, 18, a neighbour, added: "It seems quite surprising, nothing like that ever happens here."

Rupert Rowland, 38, said:"There are people who have been here a very long time. It is very sad."

The incident comes just weeks after a murder investigation was launched in Lavender Sweep, just three streets from Stormont Road into the death of 21 year old chef Henry Stangroom.


Police from the Homicide and Major Crime Command have launched a murder investigation but confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.
