Wandsworth will be lit up for the festive season with a series of Christmas light ceremony events taking place.

The events have been organised by Wandsworth Council to encourage people to shop in their own neighbourhoods.

On November 28 The Northcote Road Christmas lights, in Battersea, will be switched on.

The festivities will begin at 4pm and will include a Santa's grotto, fun for children and promotions from businesses.

A Christmas Light ceremony is taking place in Putney on November 29, with food stalls, entertainment and late night shopping.

The market will open at 3pm, with the lights being switched on at 6pm.

On the same day Southfields will be hosting a switching on ceremony at 5pm, in association with the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

Lights will be switched on in Wandsworth town centre on November 30.

An array of craft events will be taking place in Southside Shopping Centre, Garratt Lane, from 11am and the Christmas tree lights will be switched on outside All Saints Church at 4.20pm.

The Battersea Square carol singing and Christmas tree lights ceremony is scheduled to take place on December 3 at 6.30pm.

Tooting Christmas Lights will be switched on the following day from 4.15pm to 5.15pm, followed by mince pies and tea in St Nicholas Church Hall.

The final ceremony will be in Balham on December 7, with community carols at Bedford Hill Place, Bedford Hill, from 4pm to 5pm.

Councillor James Cousins, Wandsworth Council's cabinet member for business, said: "There’s no need to travel up to town when we have such a fantastic range of shops on our doorstep. 

"We would urge everyone to support their local traders, do as much of their Christmas shopping as possible in the borough’s town centres and enjoy the Christmas events on offer."
