Eight people were fined for littering during a crackdown on litterbugs.

Wandsworth Council waste enforcement officers handed out the fines outside Clapham Junction station as part of a drive to reduce littering on Wednesday.

The Cleaner Wandsworth campaign aims to clean up the borough's streets.

Posters of suspected fly tippers are also being displayed in a bid to identify the suspects.

A large perspex box filled with rubbish officers have found on the streets is touring the borough to highlight the harmful impact of litter.

Special vehicles are patrolling the streets, while sweeps are carried out near stations to fine litterbugs.

Councillor Jonathan Cook, cabinet member for environment, said:  "Seeing people drop litter with no regard for the environment around them is truly galling.

"Make no bones about it - if we catch people intentionally littering in our borough, we will take action.

"We’re working hard to make Wandsworth’s streets the cleanest in the capital - and for us to be successful we obviously rely on people doing their bit not to leave behind rubbish or make a mess in public areas."
