Pothole blitz across Wandsworth passes 10,000

Wandsworth Guardian: A pothole A pothole

More than 10,000 potholes have been filled as part of a drive to improve the borough's roads.

For many years residents have complained about the condition of Wandsworth's roads, particularly in residential areas.

Wandsworth Council's much-needed blitz began seven months ago and has targeted all 20 wards in the borough.

Some wards were more affected than others and, such was the damage to the roads, some areas required more than 1,000 individual repairs.

Northcote ward needed 1, 048 repairs and Nightingale ward required 1,052 repairs.

The grand total of repaired potholes across the borough is now up to 10,124.

Harsh winters over the last few years have caused an unusually high number of potholes to appear in roads throughout the country.

There are more than 1,500 roads in Wandsworth, stretching over 360km with 746km of pavements, many of which were constructed more than 100 years ago.
