Friends of Putney Common launch online appeal to fight Putney Hospital plans

A community group has launched an online appeal to continue the fight against an access road running through Putney Common to the former Putney Hospital.

The Friends of Putney Common (FofPC) took legal action over an easement agreement, or payment, signed in February 2012, between Wandsworth Council and the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators.

The payment was issued for the use of an access road in order to build the 420-pupil school in Putney Common.

Last month a judge at the High Court rejected arguments from the FofPC and found in favour of the conservators and Wandsworth Council.

Plans to build a new primary school have since been given the go ahead..

Now FofPC is trying to raise £15,000, within 30 days of the appeal launch, to ensure they are represented by leading barrister Robert McCracken QC, in their ongoing Court of Appeal actions.

Putney Hospital was closed in 1999 and has remained vacant event since.
