Young people across the borough who have achieved great things in their young lives will be celebrated at the 2014 Wandsworth Young Person of the Year awards.

If you know someone who has done something outstanding or overcome a particular challenge, you can nominate them for an award.

One of the winners at the 2013 awards was 19-year-old Rachel Penfold from Tooting who was recognised for her determination to secure a career in the construction industry despite leaving school with few GCSEs.

And, in 2012, Sharnough Dauley-Hill – then 17 – was praised for her voluntary and charity work, and for using her experience growing up in care to pursue a career in family law.

The council-run event, now in its 22nd year, acknowledges some of the brightest and best young people in the borough – and nominations for the annual awards are now open.

Forms can be found at the borough’s libraries, youth clubs, schools and council reception areas. Nominees must be aged under 19 and either live or study in Wandsworth.

Alternatively, you can nominate online by visiting www.wandsworth.gov.uk/wypy2014 - where you will also be able to find out more information about the event. The deadline for nominations is February 16, next year.

Councillor Angela Graham, Mayor of Wandsworth and Chairman of the Wandsworth Young Person of the Year, said: "Over the years we have celebrated the achievements of dozens of inspirational young people and I look forward to being able to do the same again in 2014.

"If you know any child or teenager who has overcome personal difficulties, been a community champion or achieved something special then do take the time to nominate them for an award."
