Police have launched an appeal after a pensioner was pushed onto tube tracks by two fighting men.

A 68-year-old woman, of Kingston, was knocked on to the southbound tracks at Clapham Common station yesterday at 3.20pm.

The two men, both aged 23, were pushing and shoving each other on the southbound platform.

They had just left a train on the northbound side of the island platform.

During the scuffle one of the men fell backwards and collided with the victim, pushing her on to the tracks on the southbound side.

She was immediately helped to safety by other passengers and has suffered bruising.

The two men have been arrested on suspicion of endangering safety.

They remain in police custody.

Detective Sergeant Tom Madden, investigating officer, said: "We are appealing for the people who helped the woman, and anyone else who was at the station at the time, to come forward.

"If you witnessed the incident or have any information that could help our investigation, please contact us."
