A man has died of multiple injuries after being hit by a bus close to Tooting Broadway station.
The man, who has not yet been identified, was involved in a collision with the bus in Upper Tooting Road, Tooting, just before 6.30pm this evening.
The London Ambulance Service pronounced the man dead at the scene.
A spokeswoman from the London Ambulance Service (LAS) said: “We were called just before 6.30pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a bus and a pedestrian at Upper Tooting Road.
“We sent a number of ambulance crews to the scene and London’s Air Ambulance doctor by car.
“Sadly, despite the best efforts of our medics, the patient was pronounced dead at the scene by the air ambulance doctor.”
Roads in the area were closed off following the incident, while witnesses said there was a heavy police presence.
MP Sadiq Khan wrote on Twitter: “Very sad reports tonight of tragic fatal accident at Tooting B’way. Am sure thoughts & prayers of everyone in Tooting go out to family and friends.”
Sophie Rhatigan tweeted: “Incredibly sad news about the man who died in Tooting tonight. Horrible scene.”
