A church is being refurbished after being awarded a £45,000 grant.

Holy Trinity Church, in Trinity Road, Tooting, was granted the Biffa Award which helps build communities across the UK.

The project will include creating additional space through a hall extension.

Groups will be able to expand their work, while it is hoped more people will be attracted to use the church hall.

Clover Café, a support group for people suffering with dementia and their carers based in the church hall, will be able to extend their services.

The church has already began transforming its facilities to make them more modern including new toilets.

It is hoped the hall extension will add to the modernisation of the building.

Jane Milligan, Clover Café volunteer, said: "The additional space at Holy Trinity being created by the current building work will be a great help, as it will enable us to provide separate areas for the support group and other breakout activities where privacy and confidentiality or simply a quiet space are important."

Gillian French, Biffa Award programme manager, said:  "Projects like this are incredibly important for local communities, which is why we look to invest in them.

"The extension at Holy Trinity Church will improve the facilities for everyone that uses it."
