A jury eventually acquitted Thomas Evans of murder.

New regulations came into force which saw Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG) take over from Primary Care Trusts in controlling heathcare in the borough.

Wandsworth CCG is made up of all the GPs working within the borough.

Campaigners began a hunger strike to protest the continued detainment of a Battersea man in Guantanamo Bay.

Shaker Aamer has been in the Cuban detention centre since 2001 without charge. Campaigners joined his hunger strike, which began in February and protested outside Parliament.

A father and daughter were killed in a bizarre and tragic speedboat accident on a family holiday in Cornwall.

Nicholas Milligan, 51, and his 8-year-old daughter Emily from Wandsworth were killed in the accident, while his wife Victoria, son Kit and two other daughters Amber and Olivia were also injured.

Foodbanks opened in Wandsworth. More than three tonnes of food was donated to the charity before it officially opened four sites across the borough.

Handouts are given to families for a maximum of three days after they have been referred to the charity by a GP, probation services, or schools.

In the first six months of opening they helped about 1000 families.

There was shock when a self-confessed paedophile who left notes in public toilets asking to be delivered young children to abuse was simply handed a £45 fine for his crimes.

Brian Knight, 48, from Chelsea was found to have been leaving notes in the public toilets in Battersea Park between April 2011 and June 2012.

A legal loophole only allowed the Crime Prosecution Service to charge Knight with outraging public decency.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim community celebrated 100 years in the UK with a huge celebration at their Southfields and Morden Mosques.

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the founder of the movement, set up the Fazl Mosque in Southfields in 1913. The Baitul Futuh in Morden is the largest mosque in Western Europe.

A fake beggar who plagued the streets of Putney for years was unmasked as owning a £300,000 flat across the Thames in Fulham.

Simon Wright was exposed of his lies and given an antisocial behaviour order banning him from returning to Putney.

He was later found to be begging in the West End and other parts of London and eventually jailed.

Plans to link Clapham Junction to the Northern line were revealed.

The Northern Line is to extend by two stops into Battersea as part of the power station development and it was revealed land has already been earmarked to allow the line to be linked with one of the countries busiest stations.

The downside is no work would be likely to happen until after 2020.
