The most read stories of the year on the Wandsworth Guardian website included the violent response to a murder, an illegal rave, a shooting resulting in murder, a fire at a shopping centre and an Old Bailey murder trial.

The most read story of the year followed the cold-blooded murder of teenager Kyle McDonald in Falcon Road, Battersea, As friends and family gathered at the scene the day after the young teen’s murder, frustration at a perceived lack of police activity boiled over and violence broke out with attacks on journalists and officers.

More than 15,000 people read the story.

Mr McDonald, 19, from Fulham, was killed in the early evening of Wednesday, September 19, as he walked through the Kambala estate, off Falcon Road, with a friend.

He was initially shot in Kambala Road, but staggered to Coppock Close where he was found minutes later by members of the public.

Noor Omar, 23, from St John's Hill, Battersea, and Darrell Michael Giscombe, 23, from Weekly Square, also in Battersea, will go on trial next year.

Second most read story of the year was a rave attended by 3,000 to 6,000 revellers causing misery to hundreds of residents in Earlsfield.

The Temple of Noise party started at 11pm on Saturday, August 3, and took place in a disused warehouse in Groton Road.

Neighbours said they could hear music blasting from speakers until 11am on Sunday morning, with some partygoers thought to have remained in the venue for two days.

It was read by 9,272 people.

Next was our coverage of the Kyle McDonald murder which, as previously mentioned, took place outside the Prince of Wales pub in Falcon Road in broad daylight – this story attracted 8,995 views.

Mr McDonald was an aspiring young rapper who went by the street name Veli Goodfellaz and was a member of the Goodfellaz rap crew.

The trial is set to take place at the Old Bailey later in 2014.

In November, 2.500 people were dramatically evacuated from the Southside Shopping Centre.

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters were scrambled to the blaze which was thought to have broken out in Nando’s inside the shopping centre.

No one was hurt and the fire was under control within two hours.

The story was read by 6,322 people.

The fifth most popular story of the year concerned the opening of the Anthony Thompson murder trial, at the Old Bailey.

Mr Thompson, 26, of Derinton Road, Tooting, died of a head injury after being attacked in Holmbury Court, also in Tooting, on February 5 last year.

He was set to fly to Barcelona the day after he was attacked, having worked up the courage to overcome his fear of flying and go abroad for the first time.

Thomas Evans, 32, of Bordesley Road, Morden, was eventually cleared of killing Mr Thompson.
