A Kiwi breakfast recipe is in the running to be named the most innovative breakfast in the country.

Tried & True Café, in Upper Richmond Road, Putney, has been nominated for a Best Breakfast Award handed out to restaurants which go the extra mile.

The café's barbecue pulled pork benedict has been specially selected for the accolade.

Diners are served pulled pork in a home-made smoky barbecue sauce on top of a jalapeño and cheddar cornbread.

The dish is finished off with a couple of poached eggs, chilli butter and spring onions.

Winners will be decided on which restaurants receive the most public votes.

The awards are taking place as part of Farmhouse Breakfast Week running January 26 to February 1.

TV chef Dean Edwards will visit the overall winning venue in person.

New Zealand-born owner of Tried & True, Rob Kelly, said: "When we opened Tried & True early in 2012 the pulled pork benedict was just a twinkle in our eye.

"The delicious dish finally made it onto the menu in early 2013 and we have been tweaking and improving it since.

"It is a decadent breakfast inspired by both the north American southern barbecue and the relaxed antipodean approach to breakfast dining."
