Police are appealing for information after a bicycle worth £1,300 was stolen from a train.

The bike was taken from a train travelling between Clapham Junction Station and Raynes Park Station on November 3.

A 46-year-old man from Brixton boarded the train at Clapham Junction with his bike at about 8.10am.

He placed the bike in a cycle slot in the front carriage and sat down, but when the train pulled into Raynes Park he realised his bike was stolen.

Police have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to.

PC Gordon Bateman of the British Transport Police said: "Bicycles remain a popular target for thieves but there are a number of ways people can help lessen their chances of becoming a victim of crime, like ensuring their property is adequately marked and secured.

"It’s also important to remember to register your bike and ensure a solid lock is used to secure it.

"If a bike is adequately marked, it makes it much easier to identify and therefore helps reduce the risk of theft.

"BTP officers regularly conduct cycle crime awareness surgeries at stations to offer crime prevention advice and we will continue to work closely with train companies to tackle cycle crime.

"If you recognise the man pictured, we’d urge you to contact police."
