Contractors have been approved for the regeneration project of the Peabody Estate.

John Sisk & Son will carry out the first phase of the £120m development scheme in St John's Hill, Battersea.

The project includes the construction of 528 new homes, commercial space and 13,6000 square metres of open space.

John Sisk & Son, which was founded in Ireland in 1859, have previously worked on Wembley City and the Google offices in Ireland.

The 150-year-old family business has worked on projects throughout the UK, with revenues of more than £800m.

John Sisk & Son have also said they will provide 60 apprenticeship projects for people living in the area.

Demolition of 1930s buildings began in April last year marking the start of the Peabody Estate regeneration.

Construction work will begin in Spring, with phase one of the project expected to be complete by 2016.

Cathy Bacon, development manager, said: "We are looking forward to working with Sisk on the regeneration of St John’s Hill, which will bring to life our 21st century vision, and will have a wide reaching, positive impact on the wider community."

The project has not been without controversy, with hundreds of neighbours objecting to the impact of a four storey block.

In August 2012 the Mayor of London gave the plans his approval.
