Students from Putney High School are in the running for a trip to America, after winning a place in the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s Lego final.

Each team, made up of nine to 16 year olds, were tasked with designing and programming a Lego Mindstorms robot which then had to solve a range of problems and tasks.

The Putney High team stormed through the London regional heat to win a place at the National First Lego League Final, with the winner to head to the World Championships in St. Louis, USA.

The team included Year 8 students Jasmine Allen, Mo Awe, Imogen Bantick, Georgia Milner.

As well as Year 9 students Lara Erda, Ariana Estrada, Amy Li, and Year 10 students Freya Bauman, Lottie Livingstone and Charlotte Wickham.

Expectations are high after last year’s UK winners, Untitled-1, triumphed in America and were crowned the First Lego League World Champions.

Each school had eight to 10 weeks to prepare for the regional events, with 24 regional tournaments taking place across the country since November 2013.
