Plans are in place to develop part of a methodist church into flats.

Developers IndigoScott want to convert part of Battersea Central Methodist Mission, in York Road, Battersea, into six apartments.

The project has been granted prior approval by Wandsworth Council, but still requires full permission from a planning applications committee.

IndigoScott hope to convert the upper floors of the church West Wing into flats, including an extension at the rear.

The space is not used by the church and considered surplus, although a number of charities sometimes use the space.

The Mission has said the development will not have an impact on any of the charities who rent the space.

A statement said: "The Mission can confirm that this development work will not in any way undermine the tenancy of the charities who rent space in our building and whose contribution to the community we continue to value.

"Indeed the sale of the west wing will release capital which will allow the Mission to improve the facilities it offers to the community, the ministry and the worshipping life of the Methodist Church in Battersea."

Charities Home Start, Destiny Kids Nursery, Sound Minds, Mimosa Women's Group and Paul's Cancer Support Group are all based in the building

And yet more flats in Battersea. The area is totally overpopulated and congested because of all these new flats. Isn't it time our roads were widened to cope with all the extra traffic being created.
