A pulled pork breakfast recipe has been named the most innovative in the country.

Tried & True Café, in Upper Richmond Road, Putney, won the Best Breakfast Award for their barbecue pulled pork benedict.

The dish, which is the brainchild of Kiwi cafe owner Rob Kelly, consists of pulled pork in a home-made smoky barbecue sauce on top of a jalapeño and cheddar cornbread.

It is finished off with poached eggs, chilli butter and spring onions.

The Best Breakfast accolades were handed out on January 29 as part of Farmhouse Breakfast Week.

Winners were selected on which restaurants received the most public votes, with Tried & True the only London based café winning an award.

Mr Kelly said: "We are overjoyed at winning this award. We created this breakfast dish to be the ultimate breakfast with a difference and it is now our signature breakfast offering.

"It is a combination of Antipodean and North American breakfast cultures.

"We know our customers love our barbecue pulled pork benedict, it is extremely popular at the weekends, but it’s lovely to know that they have taken the time to vote for us and we would like to thank them all."

Tavern Co in Liverpool won the Best Hot Breakfast Award for their full English, while a granola dish at Café Alf Resco, Dartmouth, was named the best cold breakfast.

The Farmhouse Breakfast Week runs until February 1 and aims to celebrate the importance of the first meal of the day
