Boris Johnson put any travel woes to one side on Thursday as he designed his own flip flops.

The Mayor of London visited Croydon brothers Paul and Rob Forkan, the founders of Gandys Flip Flops, as they opened their new premises in Wandsworth.

The dup, from Purley, set up Gandys Flip Flops in 2004 after losing their parents in the 2004 tsunami.

They donate 10 per cent of their profits to their Orphans for Orphans mission which provides orphans and underprivileged children with nutrition and education.

The pair, who were highly commended in the Croydon Champion Awards, are planning to open up a children’s home in Goa by the end of 2014.

Mr Johnson said: “Gandys are leading the way for the capital’s start-ups and providing inspiration to young Londoners who are thinking of starting businesses of their own.

“They prove that with a great idea and lot of hard work you can be a big success.

“Small and medium sized businesses are the lifeblood of our city creating a significant number of jobs and I will be doing everything I can to help them to thrive in London.”
