The Archbishop of Southwark, The Most Reverend Peter Smith, put the first spade in the ground to mark the construction of a new school and homes.

A ground breaking event took place to celebrate the 100 new homes and education facilities for Saint John Bosco College being built in Cobalt Place, Surrey Lane, Battersea.

Property group Lend Lease is building a modern school building for Saint John Bosco College, currently located in Princes Way, Southfields.

The new homes will be arranged across two buildings of five and six storeys.

Reverend Peter Smith said: "This project has been a great collaborative work between the Salesians of Don Bosco, the RC Southwark Diocese and Lend Lease.

"I am looking forward to seeing the new school facilities and would like to thank all of those involved."

The school hopes to move to its new home by September 2015.
